Honor Native American culture and history

Although efforts to recognize Native American contributions began about 1915, a national month-long recognition was not declared until 1990. That year, President George Bush declared the first National American Indian Heritage Month, based on congressional legislation the four previous years designating an American Indian Heritage Week.

The month honors and recognizes the original peoples of this land. Help students learn about America's native cultures. Choose from the following categories:
