Objective: This lesson uses postmarks to help
teach geography.
Supplies: individual (8.5 x 11) U.S. or international
maps, postmarks from envelopes (cut into circles), glue
stick, scissors, atlas, globe
Procedure: Students need to locate the postmark
city on the map and glue the actual postmark onto the
map.
Then compare notes:
Which city is farthest from your hometown?
Which states do you NOT have a postmark from?
Which postmarked cities are also state capitals?
Which postmarked cities have you visited?
Which are the farthest north, south, east and west?
Is there another U.S. city with the same name as your
hometown?
